Change-management playbook

01 / THE CHALLENGE

The problem behind the problem.

A mid-sized government services organization was in the second year of a digital transformation. The dashboards and automated reporting were working, but the team was more fractured. The collection describes three leadership resignations in the prior quarter and a 22-point decline in morale.

Change management had consisted of a three-hour session at go-live. The engagement returned to the behavioral conditions around the new system: what was rewarded, what was punished and which commitments leaders could realistically keep.

02 / THE APPROACH

From diagnosis to daily practice.

  1. 01

    Assess the climate

Compare stated values with daily rewards, expectations and operational behavior.

  2. 02

    Align leadership

Surface competing priorities and unspoken conflicts, then create a shared operating agreement.

  3. 03

    Build a practical playbook

Set a 90-day rhythm for communication, decision-making, conflict escalation and weekly review.

  4. 04

    Return and recalibrate

Check the behavioral shift at 60 days and adjust where the agreement is not yet working.

THE TAKEAWAY

Prepare the behavioral environment to receive change and measure whether the working experience improves.

YOUR TURN / A PRACTICE SCENARIO

What would you do?

Your transformation is technically successful, but trust is falling. What should leadership examine?

An educational scenario developed from the case theme; your selection is not a personality score or a finding about the original engagement.
